De Novo is a blog about new and interesting things, especially things related to synthetic biology.
The term de novo can mean a few different things depending on context, but it always refers to something new. In metabolism, de novo synthetic pathways create biomolecules from simple inputs (e.g. cholesterol from acetate). In bioinformatics, de novo methods make predictions without relying on references. In genetics, the term de novo describes a variant that arises due to a new mutation, rather than being inherited from a parent.
Likewise, the blog De Novo covers a variety of subjects, based on what I think is new and interesting. Much of the content will be related to synthetic biology, since that is my main research area. More broadly, I will post about anything that I find exciting, amusing, terrifying, or otherwise noteworthy.
