Thanks for the shoutout! I like the reframing of trying an entirely new approach to the same problem instead of just looking for a new problem.

Bravo to Kevin and Lulu for their success! The interference issue seemed like a big blocker for general DNA computation, so I imagine this new design will lay the groundwork for a lot of future work!

This is a fantastic article, and the lessons you describe apply in many disciplines that I (a non scientist) have been involved in during my career. The first rule of project management is "if it's not working, stop and rethink" but that is oh so hard when you've put weeks or months or even years into a project. Thanks for taking the time to share this.

Great insights. These two really resonated with me: “learn to recognize when you’re stuck, and have the courage to backtrack and start again” and try out a new design that addresses several challenges instead of focusing on tweaking execution of a flawed design.
