What’s New?

De Novo is a blog about new and interesting things, especially things related to synthetic biology.

The term de novo can mean a few different things depending on context, but it always refers to something new. In metabolism, de novo synthetic pathways create biomolecules from simple inputs (e.g. cholesterol from acetate). In bioinformatics, de novo methods make predictions without relying on references. In genetics, the term de novo describes a variant that arises due to a new mutation, rather than being inherited from a parent. Likewise, this blog covers a variety of subjects, but hopefully the reader will find all of them fresh and exciting.
